The Sisters of Mary Immaculate — serving and not being served
Our Lady of Lourdes Mwea Hospital (OLLMH) is under the management of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate. Their call is "to serve and not to be served."
Within the hospital compound they have a convent where the sisters live as a community, and it is also where their infirmary (the home of the old) is located. The Sisters are determined to reach out to many in all dimensions of life as people come looking for physical healing, and they also aim for healing of the souls.
"Go out to the whole world proclaim the good news."

Community living
The convent is where the Sisters of Mary Immaculate live as a community within the hospital compound, providing a spiritual home and base for their mission of service.
Care for elderly sisters
The infirmary, also known as the home of the old, is where the elderly sisters receive care and support in their later years, continuing the community's commitment to serving one another.
Prayer & worship
The chapel within the compound provides a sacred space for prayer, worship, and contemplation — the spiritual heart of the hospital's Catholic mission.
SMI leadership
The SMI community provides the leadership and management of OLLMH, with the Hospital CEO (Sr. Josephine Ndege) and the board guiding the institution's mission.
Spiritual healing
The Sisters provide pastoral care and prayer support for patients and staff, nurturing spiritual healing alongside the physical healing offered by the hospital.
"To serve and not to be served"
The SMI charism — "to serve and not to be served" — is the guiding principle for all who work at OLLMH, inspiring compassionate care for every patient.
Guiding word
"Go out to the whole world proclaim the good news" — the scripture that inspires the SMI community's outreach and the hospital's mission of healing.
Catholic partnership
The hospital operates in collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Murang'a, strengthening the faith-based healthcare network in the region.
