Bringing healthcare to the community — outreach, education, and disease elimination
For the benefit of citizens' health, OLLMTRH took the initiative to approach the community by setting up a medical service team for citizens who cannot easily access hospital facilities. The team goes into the community, works wherever required, and educates people on preventive health care, including HIV issues.
The hospital cares not only about medical quality and service but also hopes to contribute to the health and well-being of mankind in the future, continuously demanding of itself the elevation of medical care quality and devotion to medical education.
Our outreach initiatives serve vulnerable populations across the Mwea region.

Preventive care & HIV
OLLMH nurses deliver health talks in the community on preventive healthcare, nutrition, maternal and child health, hygiene, and HIV/AIDS awareness — empowering people with knowledge.
Community Health Volunteers
Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) trained by OLLMH serve as a vital link between the hospital and the community, conducting home visits and referring patients for care.
Orphans & vulnerable children
A training programme held in 2010 for orphans and vulnerable children, providing health education, life skills, and psychosocial support — many affected by HIV/AIDS.
Targeting vulnerable citizens
A jiggers elimination project launched in the community, combining treatment, education, environmental sanitation, and shoe distribution to eradicate this parasitic condition.
Resource mobilization
Administration chiefs and sub-chiefs of Mwea visited OLLMH for a resource-mobilization session, strengthening the partnership for community health initiatives.
Spiritual support
As a Catholic institution, our outreach includes pastoral care and prayer support, nurturing spiritual healing alongside physical care in the communities we serve.
Community-wide initiatives
Our outreach includes disease prevention campaigns targeting malaria, HIV/AIDS, TB, waterborne diseases, and other conditions affecting the Mwea community.
A targeted initiative to eradicate jiggers among the most vulnerable citizens in Mwea.
The hospital launched the project based on findings from initial community assessments, identifying the scale and impact of jiggers infestation.
Based on the findings, the hospital devised a serious strategy to participate in the eradication of poverty, targeting mostly vulnerable citizens.
Affected individuals receive treatment for jiggers infestation, with follow-up care to prevent re-infestation and address secondary infections.
Community education on hygiene, environmental sanitation, and preventive measures to stop the cycle of re-infestation.
Distribution of shoes to vulnerable community members, particularly children, to prevent jiggers entry through bare feet.
Improving living conditions through environmental sanitation improvements, targeting the dust and dirt environments where jiggers thrive.
The project targets mostly vulnerable citizens — particularly children and the elderly who are disproportionately affected by jiggers.
The jiggers elimination project welcomes support through donations, volunteer participation, and partnership to expand its reach.
