Poultry Farming

Poultry farming is carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Mwea Hospital as part of its self-sustainability programme. The poultry unit supplies eggs and meat for patient meals, contributing to the hospital’s goal of providing fresh, healthy food from its own resources.

The unit maintains a flock of laying hens and broilers, managed with attention to biosecurity and feed efficiency. Surplus produce is sold to the local community.

Together with rice, dairy, and maize farming, the poultry project forms an integrated agriculture system that supports the hospital’s financial self-reliance and patient nutrition goals.
