Maize Farming

A seasonal maize-farming project that supplements the hospital's food supply and supports self-reliance through modern agriculture.

Maize Farming

Maize farming is a seasonal venture undertaken by Our Lady of Lourdes Mwea Hospital as part of its self-sustainability programme. The maize harvest supplements the hospital kitchen’s grain supply, providing meal flour for patient food.

The project is cultivated during the appropriate growing season, with the 2013 maize farming cycle documented in the hospital’s agricultural records. Surplus harvest is stored or sold to support ongoing operations.

Maize farming complements the rice, dairy, and poultry ventures, diversifying the hospital’s food sources and reducing reliance on external procurement.
